OIL FINISHES

Wood finishing oil

A tough, hard wearing, water heat and alcohol resistant finish, which is easy to use. Excellent for turned items, kitchen worktops, in bathroom areas and outside furniture.

Wipe on a thin coat with a pad made up of stockinette or cotton sheeting (white rags), leave overnight to dry and then cut back lightly with 320 grit finishing paper or 0000 grade wire wool (for best results use the paper and then the wire wool to achieve a flat surface for the second coat).

Apply at least 3 - 4 coats for kitchen worktops every 5 - 8 hours minimum. After 1- 2 years, if the surface is over used and worn, simply abrade the surface and apply more coats. Fine wire wool when dry will produce a matt type finish.

Earth Oils

At Mylands we keep samples of hundreds of stains specially made to the specification of London’s finest hardwood flooring and bespoke joinery manufacturers. Mylands Earth Collection represents the most popular colours selectedby interior designers and architects in recent times.

Mylands wood stain shades are based on natural earth pigments and dyes.

We aim to nurture wood’s intrinsic beauty giving it a natural, distressed or smooth texture according to your preferred finish./p>

As the Earth stains are not a finish in their own right they must be sealed. We would recommend sealing them with one of our water-based varnishes for general woodwork or a Mylac Floor finish for your floors. For anyone wanting to be a little creative, why not try the Earth Oil Natural or one of our colours. Remember that, while most propriertary finishes are suitable for use over Earth Stains, a mixed finishing system must be tested on a concealed area or a wood off-cut before use.
