MYLANDS, A PREMIUM PAINT COMPANY
Premium, meaning finest, high quality and the best that is available. In this modern world, where premium is attached to endless products and experiences, it can be difficult to filter what is truly premium and what only wishes to be. Established in Lambeth in the 19th century, John Myland had a mission, to create great paint in a range of colours and paint finishes, using only premium materials. It is these solid foundations that helped us to build the Mylands of today.
THE MARKERS OF PREMIUM PAINT
At Mylands we create paints that are lustrous, flawless, infinitely stylish and covetable. But creating a premium paint is about more than looks, it’s about performance too. One of the true markers of a premium paint is durability. Homes aren’t meant to be showrooms, they’re meant to be lived in. Our Marble Matt Emulsion is washable, even scrubbable if need be, making it the perfect paint for interior walls in every room of your home, kitchen to living room and beyond. Then there is ease of use, with Mylands’ paint colours, great coverage is assured, but it will also go on smoothly, whether ceiling paint or exterior paint, matte or semi-gloss.
IT'S ALL ABOUT THE PIGMENT
Ever wondered why your less expensive paint doesn’t look like the colour on the tin? It often comes down to pigments. Mixing solvent (water or alkyd) with pigment and binder creates paint. Once the paint dries, the solvent dissipates and only the solids remain to create your shade. Premium paints feature better quality pigment and more of it. Our acrylic emulsion, for example, has high pigmentation featuring extremely finely ground marble to make a powder. It is these minute pigment particles that create exquisite, consistent, coverage, and a colour that is true to your intended shade for your DIY project. With paint, you really do get what you pay for.
DO I NEED A PREMIUM PAINT?
There are many factors which may influence your decision to use a premium paint over a standard decorators’ magnolia. The first is longevity. Once you’ve invested time in your DIY project, do you want the colour to stay fresh for as long as possible? Our Wood & Metal Eggshell, for example, contains the highest pigment levels and premium raw ingredients such as natural earth pigments. This classic paint product is available in Pure White but may be tinted to your chosen colour. Use on both wood and metal, such as skirting boards and radiators, and benefit from reduced dry time, excellent coverage and long lasting results.
WHAT ABOUT PRIMER?
With less expensive paints, a combination of paint & primer is a given. A primer is designed to create a smooth blank canvas to paint upon, and reduce the risk that your chosen colour will seep into the wall or woodwork. With premium paints on the other hand, an undercoat is not always necessary. Our QD Kitchen and Bathroom Varnish has three sheen levels, including matt, gloss and satin finish, and can be applied with a paint brush or sprayer without the need for primer. On bare wood, a thin even coat works as a primer sealer.
THE AREA OF THE HOME WHERE PREMIUM PAINT PAYS DIVIDENDS
There are some areas of the home where a premium paint will pay dividends, particularly the exterior of your home. Exposed to the elements at all times, and presenting the first impression of your home, selecting a premium paint brand allows you to keep your home looking its best. Working on both brickwork and render, Mylands’ Exterior Masonry Paint is hardwearing, mildew resistant and low VOC. For application tips, please see the data sheet on our product page. High traffic areas such as hallways and kitchens may also benefit from a premium paint, for their durability. Premium paint also offers greater depth of colour and, often, greater choice.
