MYLANDS IS PROUD TO BE THE OFFICIAL PAINT PARTNER FOR
DULWICH PICTURE GALLERY

Continuing its long history of bringing colour to cultural institutions, Mylands has been supporting Dulwich Picture Gallery for many years. Mylands colours have enhanced the Permanent Collection of Old Masters and temporary exhibitions, bringing the curators' vision to life. Mylands paints are richly pigmented, offering an additional depth of colours alongside the longevity and durability required for exhibition spaces, especially when welcoming a large numbers of visitors.
With a mutual love of colours, art and innovation, the partnership has included developing a specific colour for the gallery, Dulwich Red.

As close neighbours in South London, Mylands and Dulwich Picture Gallery have worked closely for many years.

Dominic Myland says, “Mylands has a rich history of working with some of our best-loved cultural institutions, particularly in London. We pride ourselves on developing the highest quality, most technically advanced paints in the industry and it’s exciting to have such brilliant partners in the world of culture. Just as we have become more confident using colour in the home, it has been really interesting to help such revered institutions begin to do the same, incorporating rich hues and even colourful murals inside their walls rather than the traditional plain white.”

About Dulwich Picture Gallery

Located in the borough of Southwark, London, Dulwich Picture Gallery was designed and built by Sir John Soane.

Dulwich Picture Gallery is the world’s first purpose-built public art gallery: it was founded in 1811 when Sir Francis Bourgeois RA bequeathed his collection of old masters “for the inspection of the public”.

Today the Gallery is a vibrant cultural hub hosting some of the UK’s leading exhibitions alongside its Permanent Collection of Baroque masterpieces.

Dulwich Red

During the covid lockdowns, Dulwich Picture Gallery seized the opportunity to rethink and fully refurbish the space.

Months in the making, Dulwich Red was created by taking samples from the original paint layers below the surface; Mylands tested the colour at different times of the day and worked side by side with the Gallery's curatorial team to produce the perfect shade to bring the space to life.

This red is inspired by the ‘Pompeiian Red’ from Soane's famous library; the rich, warm hue has been updated with a hint of terracotta to emphasise the light of Dulwich in the Gallery’s exceptional Enfilade.
