Bond Street™ No.219 at 94 New Bond Street: Mylands Colours for Shapero Rare Books' New Flagship Location

Mylands is delighted for its colours to feature across Shapero Rare Books' new flagship location. These colours act as the blank canvas to tell the stories of the rare books and art collections housed by Shapero Rare Books. Interior designer, Malcolm Winyward led the design team and curated the colours chosen for this project. He chose from Mylands' iconic Colours of London collection, a selection of 120 colourways inspired by the eclectic city, housing shades inspired by notable streets and landmarks.

This flagship houses the company's headquarters, bookshop and galleries to best showcase their world of rare books and art in the heart of London's Mayfair. Visitors can discover a world of literary treasures, some of the most magnificent natural history books, accounts of daring voyages around the world, guide books and travel photography, manuscripts ranging from early Islamic works to Modern typescripts, and artworks for all tastes and interests.

Bring these colours into your own interior projects. Colour highlights from the project include:

Bond Street™ No.219 - from Mylands' own archive, this colour was originally inspired by a property on Bond Street. A deep dark blue that creates a commanding yet tranquil atmosphere. The perfect shade to complement Shapero Rare Book's move to the iconic street.

Hawksmoor™ No.112 - a subtle soft silver blue that pairs perfectly with Bond Street™ No.219 in presenting a calming presence. It is a cool tone that allows it to be an alternative to white or off-white.

Holland Park™ No.5 - this shade first featured in a period home located in its namesake. Soft in appearance with a touch of warmth from undertones of yellow, it is a versatile shade that is not overpowering yet adds a sunny disposition.

Museum™ No.151 - inspired by Victorian-era museums and galleries, it is an ashy blue-green that lends itself well to adding a glimpse of colour to interiors. Providing a peaceful presence, it does a wonderful job of offsetting brighter colours.

"At a time when many businesses are moving online or away from shops into offices, I believe it is important to keep a strong presence in the heart of London. Our customers are both local and international collectors and they still love to come into the shop and talk to us about what they are searching for to grow their collections. Even more importantly though, we regularly attract new customers and to them location is key. London continues to maintain its position in the international rare books and art world and as such we have to show that we are open for business." - Bernard Shapero, Founder of Shapero Rare Books on the opening of the new flagship space.

"Having specified Mylands paints at the previous Shapero Bond Street premises, I wanted to use colours that give a contemporary feel but work as a good backdrop for a more traditional setting. I particularly like Bond Street by Mylands, which we’ve used throughout the building, as the artworks and books look especially good against it. Bond Street for the only bookshop on Bond Street." – Malcolm Winyard, Interior Architect on his colour choices

To celebrate the relaunch of de Gournay's NYC showroom, Mylands is delighted to have worked with the hand-painted and hand-embroidered wallcovering specialists on creating a complimentary colour palette which has featured across multiple rooms for the renovation project. Reopening its doors on Wednesday 12th June 2024, the de Gournay NYC showroom is located in the heart of New York in the Upper East Side. The showroom is made up of 12 curated spaces, all interwoven with its own themes and stories, bringing together two family owned and run businesses.

Mylands colours decorate the space across accents, cornices and woodwork, complimenting the intricately, hand-painted wallpapers. Discover the colour palette, specially created for the project, below. The colours chosen comprise of hues from Mylands' iconic Colours of London collection and Archive collection. Alongside this, Mylands has created bespoke colours, working closely with de Gournay's Director, Hannah Cecil Gurney.

Notable colours from the palette, include:

Rothschild Street™ No.296 - part of the Mylands' Colours of London collection, a deep, rich red named after the street Mylands is situated on in West Norwood, London. With undertones of warm oranges and yellows, mixed with magentas and blacks, this red adds a flare of drama and intensity whether used for walls, ceilings or accent features.

Peach Flesh Pink™ No.268 - part of the Mylands' Archive collection, this pink hue is both made up of yellows and reds. It is impactful and delicate making it versatile to use.

Walbrook™ No.142 - part of the Mylands' Colours of London collection, named after and inspired by architect Christopher Wren's masterpiece, St. Stephen Walbrook, this is a light cream neutral that gives a lot of warmth. Made from undertones of yellow and orange, it is reminiscent of the soft glow of the sun.
